CAST IN 1867, FOUR BRONZE LIONS HAVE BEEN SITTING SILENTLY IN TRAFALGAR SQUARE, MUTE WITNESSES TO EVERY VOICE OF PROTEST, DEMONSTRATION AND CELEBRATION FOR OVER 150 YEARS.
IF ONE OF THESE LIONS COULD OPEN ITS MOUTH AND SPEAK TODAY: WHAT WOULD IT SAY?
‘Please Feed the Lions’ is a user-driven interactive installation designed by Es Devlin; a fifth fluorescent red lion was installed in Trafalgar Square for The London Design Festival, 2018. The public were invited to “Feed the Lion” where their contributed word was developed into a poem with Google Art + Culture’s algorithm. The ever-evolving poem was updated live and projection-mapped over the lion and onto Nelson’s column.
