Shipwreck

From across the room I saw the President, torchlight playing across his visage.

And the violins began, and the low rumble of the timpani.

Video is utilised in Shipwreck to explore the Trump phenomena, in particular his use of social media. The iconic rear wall of the Almeida appears to glitch and shift into an MTV era television screen, paving way for a takeover of Trump iconography – his face and mannerisms superimposed into classical paintings, tapestries and murals. This culminates in a datamoshed blipvert of the past decade of internet and Trump iconography as the penultimate scene of Anne Washburn’s play boils and melts to a close.
